Baseball Divisions & Age Chart
All Divisions of Baseball at South Wall Little League are structured to provide the best opportunity for the children to learn and most importantly have fun!
Note: Ages are based on the new Little League Baseball® Age Determination Date.
Tee-Ball
Ages: 4 – 5 :
Born: 9/1/16 to 8/31/18
Field: Field #2
- Safety Baseball used (softer than regular baseball)
- Recommended for all 1st year players between the ages of 4 – 5.
- Children are taught the fundamentals of catching, throwing and hitting.
- All Children field and bat each inning.
- There are no outs; players advance 1 base at a time.
- A tee will be used for batting. Halfway through the season 1 – 2 innings of “coach pitch” will be introduced (coach’s discretion).
- There will remain “no outs” during coach pitch, if a child struggles, a tee can/should be used.
Rookie 6
Ages: 6 – 7
Born: 9/1/14 - 8/31/16
Field: Field #1
- Safety Baseball used (softer than regular baseball)
- Recommended for:
- All 6 year olds.
- 7 year olds that are either just starting out or are not yet comfortable with using a regulation baseball.
- Focus on fundamentals, catching, throwing and hitting as well as the introduction of fielding and base running.
- Focus on putting the ball in play and teaching situational awareness.
- This level incorporates 3 outs per inning, advancement beyond first base if the ball is hit into the outfield.
- 6 innings coach pitch; a tee is used as necessary.
Pioneer
Ages: 7 – 8
Born: 9/1/2013 - 8/31/2015
Field: #6 or #7 (46/60)
- Regulation baseball will be used
- Recommended for:
- 7 year olds that have already played 1 season of Rookie or are ready for the next level of Baseball.
- 8 year olds that are not yet comfortable to play in the Minors.
- Focus on core fundamentals as well as the next level of fielding and base running.
- Players may advance at will on a ball in play, with the exception of an overthrow by the fielder.
- Play on a regulation size field with a focus on better understanding of the game and making the right decisions on a ball in play, whether it is base running or fielding.
- 2 Innings coach pitch; 3 innings kid pitch and 1 innings coach pitch
Minor
Ages: 9 – 10 (* 8's see notes)
Born: 9/1/2011 - 8/31/2013
Field: #8 (46/60)
- All 9 & 10 year old players will play at the Minor level.
- 8 year olds are welcome to be evaluated and considered to play at the Minor level.
- League discretion will be based on the number of players and teams formed as well as the child’s ability.
- All innings are kid pitch.
Major
Ages: 11 – 12 (* 10's see notes)
Born: 9/1/2009 - 8/31/2011
Field: #3 (50/70)
- All 11 – 12 year old players will play at the Major level.
- 10 year olds are welcome to be evaluated and considered to play at the Major level.
- League discretion will be based on the number of players and teams formed as well as the child’s ability.
Junior
Ages: 13 – 15
Born: 9/1/2006 - 8/31/2009
Field: #5 (60/90 field)
- All 13 – 15 year old players will play at the Junior level.
Senior
Ages: 15 – 16
Born: 9/1/2005 - 8/31/2007
Field: #5 (60/90 field)
- All 15 – 16 year old players will play at the Senior level.
